The kids are home for spring break, for fall break or for the entire summer.
You have some time off. It's time to plan that leisure time without emptying
your savings account. You can enjoy a family vacation for all ages within
driving distance of your home. Keep your family strong and loving with the
ultimate family therapy. Go camping.

From Quick Guide: Camping Guide
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide how much your family budget can handle.

  2. Step 2

Select the week or weekend that works for your family.

  3. Step 3

Start planning several months ahead of time. Set aside a little
money each month for your camping trip.

  4. Step 4

Choose your camp site by searching online for State Parks or
National Parks in your area. Reserve a campsite for the weekend you plan to
go. Reservations can be done online.

  5. Step 5

Rent or borrow camping gear. Buy camping gear a little each month.
Shop for camping gear at ArmyNavy stores, Army Surplus stores, garage sales
or the classifieds. If you have the budget for new stuff or
simply can't find what you need, places like feed stores, farming equipment
stores or sports equipment stores will have what you need.

  6. Step 6

Take two vehicles if you can. All the camping gear takes up a lot of
space. Pack the gear in plastic boxes, cardboard boxes, crates or big
plastic trash bags. Take extra trash bags.

  7. Step 7

Arrive at the campsite before dark.

  8. Step 8

Set up camp. Enjoy your stay.

  9. Step 9

Plan on being tired and dirty on the way home. Eat your last meal at
    a restaurant.

Tips & Warnings
  • The cost of a campsite is a fraction of hotel accommodations. Many parks have cabins to rent also.
  • To help you choose a park, look on a state map like the ones you get when you cross the state line on an interstate. State maps will have State and National Parks labeled.
  • Boats and canoes can be rented ahead of time online.
  • Turn off all cell phones.
  • Wear a hat, socks and closed shoes. Pack your flip flops for showering and your flashlight for middle of the night bathroom runs.
