Step 1
Decide if you need a progressive scan DVD player. If you don't own a HDTV, then buying a progressive scan DVD player is a waste of money. They are meant to give DVDs played on HDTV's higher picture resolution.
-
Step 2
Consider the video inputs of your current TV. Some TVs out there only have the bare essentials for audio/video inputs, make sure you take this into consideration when choosing a DVD Player, and if you don't have an HDTV, you might be buying a DVD player you don't even need.
-
Step 3
Evaluate how much room you have for a DVD player. Measure where you intend to put it so you can buy a progressive scan DVD player that will fit in your entertainment center, whether you have to put it on it's side or not, and if you are going to put it beneath the television, on top of the television, or on a different shelf in the entertainment center.
-
Step 4
Talk to any friends or relatives you might have that have a progressive scan DVD player. See if they like it, and what brand they have, and if they would recommend that brand or not.
-
Step 5
Consider your budget. If you are going to buy a cheap progressive scan DVD player, you might as well buy a more expensive regular DVD player. Quality can be judged by how much you spend most of the time, and you don't have to pick something way out of your price range.

Step 6
Visit a store online or in person, such as Best Buy, that has shopping in both places. You can browse online in a no-pressure atmosphere, then go to the actual store when you're ready to buy something, or have questions you want answered.
