  1. Step 1

Analyze the requirements carefully. Before you can install a CMS, you must know first the requisites that go with it. Requirements for CMS installation may include directory and file permissions, database user accounts and a Web browser.

  2. Step 2

Read the installer's feedback. The installer will check if your system meets all the preconditions to run your chosen CMS. This can help you make the necessary adjustments that the installer suggested to completely install your CMS.

  3. Step 3

Extract the CMS. Extract the downloaded CMS into a web-enabled directory using WinRar or WinZip if you have a Windows system. If you own a PC running on UNIX, you will be advised to use a special command.

  4. Step 4

Connect your database to the tables and other applications. Type the details requested by the installer to allow the database to work. After this, you can proceed inputting the name of the database into the correct field.

  5. Step 5

Create an administrator or personal account. The Administrator account will help you manage the CMS courses and user accounts. Your personal account can aid you when you create or enroll in courses.

  6. Step 6

Make a content directory. Make sure the content directory that you are going to make is outside the document directory of the web server that you own. This will provide you with additional security.

  7. Step 7

Save the configuration. To avoid errors and to finish the CMS installation process, the file permission must be writable. You will be informed if any changes or correction must be made to complete the installation.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not forget to learn the requisites in installing your CMS. If the permissions are not yet available, the installation process will only produce errors. This can waste time and effort in CMS installation.
  • Check the licensing section of the CMS that you will use. The details about restrictions and conditions in using the CMS are important.
  • Backup all your databases. Installing a CMS is not always 100% successful; so it is wise to have a database backup. Any error that will occur in the installation method can harm or destroy your files.
