Step 1
Pick out walking gear that is well-made. It may cost a little more in the short run, but it will last much longer and perform better than something you just pick up to get by, that isn’t made for what you need.
-
Step 2
Rainy weather requires gear that sheds rain. Choose fabrics that are breathable, not just waterproof. If the water stays out and your sweat can’t escape, you will still end up wet and uncomfortable.
-
Step 3
Dress in layers when walking in cool weather. You will be chilly until you get your body temperature up, then you'll shed layers in order to stay comfortable and not overheat.
-
Step 4
Choose the right footwear--this is extremely important. Find shoes that are comfortable, well-made and with good flexible soles. Socks are equally important and should be cushioned and made from wicking fabric to keep your feet comfortable and dry.
-
Step 5
Consider walking safety. Pick clothing that is bright, even fluorescent, and consider a vest and/or shoes that have reflector strips.
