Most of us are firmly entrenched in our busy lives with little time to spare for an exercise program. Walking is an exercise that can be done at intervals over the course of the day--anywhere, anytime. Here's how to get the most out of your walking.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Take the stairs. Whenever you have the opportunity, skip the elevator and step up the stairs. Instead of standing in place, you’ll work those muscles.

  2. Step 2

Park in the farthest spot from the shopping mall and walk. Better yet, park on the other side of the parking lot from the store you are visiting and walk through the entire mall.

  3. Step 3

Utilize your lunch break. Instead of sitting in front of a computer eating lunch or going out every day with your work buddies to that fast-food place, take the time to go for a walk. Get some fresh air, a new perspective on the day, and a little exercise.

  4. Step 4

Get up early and walk. Eeek! But yes, an early rise and a walk provides a wonderful start to the day before the hectic craziness gets going. It also keeps you from making those “but I’m really tired” excuses about exercising at the end of the day. You already walked!

  5. Step 5

Walk with the family. Get the kids out after dinner or on a weekend afternoon and go for a walk. It will benefit them and you.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you live near a grocery store or other shops, walk instead of driving your car.
