Create a Video Podcast

What podcasts are to audio, vodcasts are to video. With new technology and some basic editing skills, you can start your own pseudo-TV show by putting your own videos into an RSS feed and allowing an audience to download them onto their iPods or computers.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • server
  • website
  • software editing program
  • camcorder
  • microphone
  • Firewire cable
  1. Step 1

Plan your podcast. Choose a topic, decide how you want to organize episodes, decide how often you want to update, and write out a general script.

  2. Step 2

After you are prepared, organize your shoot. Have a schedule, gather the necessary cast/crew, and make sure you get all the footage that you need.

  3. Step 3

When you're done shooting, upload your video onto your computer. An easy way to do that is with a Firewire cable.

  4. Step 4

    Edit your videos.

  5. Step 5

When you are ready to save the movie, export it as an MP4 file in H.264 format to get good quality on a small screen.

  6. Step 6

Put the file on your server. Then, place the link on your website and/or create an RSS feed so users can access your videos online.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have iTunes 4.9, iTunes 4.9 supports playback of video, so you can create an XML file so iTunes can access your video.
  • Pick a topic that you are passionate about. It takes a lot of time, effort, and manpower to produce a video. Your passion will guide you through it.
  • Advertise your video podcast so others can find it.
  • If you use music in your videos, make sure you don't use copyrighted music.
  • Always test your file and link to make sure it works properly before you post it.
