Decide on a Topic for a Video Podcast

Choosing a video podcast topic is a little more difficult than choosing a general podcast topic, because you have the extra dimension of visuals. Not only does your video podcast require some sort of substance, but you have to imagine how you're going to shoot it, how you're going to edit it, what kind of look you are going for.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • deep thoughts
  1. Step 1

Start by thinking about what you're passionate about. Video takes a lot of time, energy, and manpower to make, and especially if you are starting up and can't pay people a lot of money to work for you, you need to go with a topic that you are passionate about and you believe in. After you come up with these topics, think about how these subjects can be told visually. What makes the topic conducive to video, and why would people appreciate watching it, as opposed to reading about it or listening to it through audio.

  2. Step 2

Decide what your goals are for making a video podcast. What are you skills as a filmmaker, and what do you hope to bring to the public? Are you making video podcasts to enhance the content of a site that you already run?

  3. Step 3

Think about your audience. Who are you targeting?

  4. Step 4

Think about how often you need to create episodes and how you would organize it. Can you visualize this video podcast topic keeping people's attention for a while? Most importantly, can you see it keeping you excited for a while?

  5. Step 5

Form a team. It's hard to do everything yourself.

  6. Step 6

Choose your topic, and go for it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Even though it's harder to monitor because the internet is so vast, make sure you keep your facts straight and remain knowledgeable about your topic. In order to distinguish yourself from other podcasts and build an audience, you need to retain credibility.
  • Be creative.
