Things You'll Need:
- footage that you shot on a video camera
- computer
- Final Cut Pro
- Firewire cable
-
Step 1
First, go to System Settings and set all your Scratch disks to a certain folder, so that everything from your current project will be saved to a specific folder.
-
Step 2
Connect your video camera to your computer with your Firewire cord. Open up Final Cut Pro, and log and capture all your footage onto Final Cut Pro.
-
Step 3
Import all the other files you need in order to complete your edit--all images, music files, other video files. To do this, go to File/Import and select the file. Once you import it, it should show up in your browser, and you can drag it onto your timeline.
-
Step 4
Drag everything you need onto your timeline--might be easier to do it one at a time--and decide which segments you want to use.
-
Step 5
On the timeline, there is are three tracks. One for video and two for audio. Generally, you can cut the video and audio tracks all at once in the same place. Select the razor blade tool in your menu, and click on the times that you want to split it. Or you can set input and output times on the Viewer window. You can also layer video tracks on top of each other.
-
Step 6
Add transitions if it helps. For a video podcast, you probably want to focus the attention on the story and keep the transitions very simple and non-distracting. Stick to Fade Out or Cross-Fade transitions.
-
Step 7
This basically covers the concept of editing, but once you get better at editing, you can use a lot of keyboard controls and do things more efficiently. Think about the content that you are editing together and what is needed to tell your story.
-
Step 8
Once you're done editing your video, you can start the process of compressing the files and uploading them onto a server to create your video podcasts.
