Add Music to a Video Podcast

In a video, you generally need to have some music to propel the story forward. Even if your particular type of podcast doesn't require background music, it's nice to add some either in the intro, outro, or perhaps during transitions. Here's how you would do that in Final Cut Pro.

Instructions

    • 1

Start by having Final Cut Pro open and your video logged and captured onto your computer.

    • 2

Decide on the music that you want, and save it onto your computer.

    • 3

Import the music files onto Final Cut Pro by going to File/Import and choosing it from your computer. After you import it, the file will show up on your browser window.

    • 4

Click on the music file and drag it onto your timeline. Decide which section you want to use and click on the razor blade in order to cut it up.

    • 5

Drag the music track to the proper placement. Play it again and listen to it with your video. Keep moving it until it's positioned in the exact place where you want the music to come up in your video podcast.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you're using the music as background, you can double click on the audio track in order to adjust the volume settings. Turn the sound up or down according to your desires.

  • Also, you can adjust the music so that it fades in or fades out when it starts and finishes. That way the transitions are not as harsh.

  • Don't use copy-righted music. There are a lot of royalty-free music sites online that you can take music from and not have to worry about getting sued. If you have any musician friends, ask them if they'd be willing to let you use their music. It'd be a good way for them to get their music out there, and a good way for you guys to support each other.
