The automatic tracking feature on the Meade DS-2000 telescope lets you keep any object you sight centered in the eyepiece. Follow the steps below to set up Autostar in the Meade DS-2000.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Flip on the Autostar power. The first time you do this, a Sun warning will appear. Read and press the button acknowledging that you understand the dangers of looking into the Sun.
Step2
Next "Select Daylight Savings" may appear. If this does not display, it has been already been set and you can move on to the next step.
Step3
The next display will be "Select Setup: Align Option." Press "Mode." "Setup: Align" will display. Press "Enter."
Step4
"Select Setup: Targets Option" will appear. Press the scroll-down key until you see "Setup: Targets" and press "Enter."
Step5
The next display will be "Select Targets: Astronomical Option." Press either the up or down scroll key once to find "Targets: Astronomical," and then press "Enter."
Step6
Locate a bright star. Use the arrow keys and the "SmartFinder" to align the star. Use the eyepiece to center the star.
Step7
Once you have the star centered, press "Enter" and select "Astronomical." The Meade auto-tracking motor will engage and keep the star centered in the eyepiece. You may need to re-center the star if engaging AutoStar moves the telescope slightly out of alignment.
