Treo Smartphones have built-in Bluetooth, a wireless technology that allows you to operate your phone hands-free using an earpiece or speaking from up to 30 feet away, or sync to multiple Bluetooth devices such as computers, printers and GPS receivers. Synchronizing the information stored on your computer is essential to get the most out of your Treo. Here's how to synchronize Treo's Bluetooth with your computer.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

If you haven't already installed the Palm software, insert the installation CD into your computer and follow the directions on the screen.

  2. Step 2

In the Palm Treo program, look for a "HotSync" icon on your taskbar. If it's lighted, it's active. If not, click Start/Programs/Palm/HotSync to activate it.

  3. Step 3

On your Treo, tap "Applications," the "Bluetooth" icon and select "HotSync Setup."

  4. Step 4

Click "Next" on the introductory screen. Your Treo will then begin to search for nearby Bluetooth devices. The Treo must be located close to your computer. Other Bluetooth devices should be moved away. When the Treo software locates the device, select the name of your computer and click "OK."

  5. Step 5

On your computer, set up a virtual serial port. When you're finished, select "Next" on your Treo software.

  6. Step 6

Click on the HotSync icon in your taskbar and verify that "Local Serial" or "Local" is checked. "Local USB" should not be checked. When you're finished, select "Next" on your Treo software.

  7. Step 7

Now click on the "Launch HotSync" button. This will begin the synchronization between your computer and your Treo.

Tips & Warnings
  • Set a password on your Treo to add security to your device connection.
  • Change the visibility of your device to "Hidden" to prevent other Bluetooth devices from synching. If set to "Temporary" you'll lose any devices not on your "Trusted" list after 2 minutes.
  • Never synchronize two Treos with the same name on the same computer.
