Far from the days when license plate bingo was all the rage, today’s traveling children and adults have more entertainment per mile than previous generations ever dreamed possible. If your family is tired of the small screens on hand-held video games, use these steps to find a gaming system that can be connected to your in-car TV.

From Quick Guide: Find a Video Game System
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • In-car TV
  1. Step 1

Examine your current in-car TV system. Are the video inputs accessible? If so, this will make installation of your system much easier. Consult your vehicle's or video system's user manual to learn how to attach peripherals if inputs are not readily visible.

  2. Step 2

Research your gaming options. If your family already owns a video game system, you likely know what kinds of games you and your children prefer. You may be able to transport your existing game console between home and car or buy a used model to keep in the vehicle.

  3. Step 3

Shop around for the best deals. Many video game systems can be connected to your vehicle. Sony Playstation, Xbox and the Nintendo Game Cube are just a few of your gaming options. Visit stores like Best Buy or Wal-Mart to find the video game system you're looking for.

  4. Step 4

Install your system. Consult the manufacturer’s directions for both the game console and the TV system for any specific dos and dont's. You may need to install a power inverter for your car to run the video game system you choose.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have separate systems for home and car, purchase systems that use the same type of game format. This will decrease expenses in purchasing games.
  • If your in-car TV does not come with headphones, consider purchasing them so that game players in the back seat don’t distract drivers in the front.
  • All screens and monitors should be installed in a way that does not distract the driver.
  • Make sure your video game system is compatible with the power supplies available in your vehicle. Most electronics stores sell adapters to allow standard wall plugs to use cigarette lighters, but make sure this will not void the game system warranty.
