Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Check out every aspect of your speakers in order to diagnose the exact problem. Note the sound your speakers are making, if any, and check to see if the speakers are unusually hot during use. These can all be symptoms of the problem.
Step2
Make sure the problem is with the speakers and not the computer itself. Check the connections from the speakers to the computer while the speakers are turned on and the volume is turned up. Many times, fixing dead air from computer speakers is as simple as un-clicking the mute control.
Step3
Write down the make, model and serial number of your computer speakers. Find the respective Web site of your speakers’ manufacturer such as Sony or Bose. Read through any self-help sections on the site and write down any tech support phone number you find.
Step4
Seek advice from a local electronic vendor, such as Best Buy or through the computer’s manufacturer, such as Dell or Apple. These sites or the tech help support line can at least point you in the right direction to accurately diagnose the problem.
Step5
Ask people you know who are into electronics and sound systems for their advice. Perhaps they can fix it for you or they might at least have knowledge of someone who can do it at a reduced price.
Step6
Make your decision on the person who can repair your stereo speakers based on cost and reputation. Consider timeliness of service as well, since it could take a few weeks or even longer to fix your speakers.
