How to Use Vista to Print Through a Print Server

You can use Vista to print through a print server just like you would use the operating system and software to print to a normal printer. If you're used to Windows XP you might fumble around finding the right buttons at first, but you'll get it.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer running vista

Instructions

    • 1

Open a document that you would like to print. After you have proofed the document and approved the layout, hit the Office 2007 icon in the top left corner of the window.

    • 2

Scroll down the menu that opens and stop on the "Print" option. This opens a side-pane. Slide your mouse pointer over to "Print," the top-most option, so that you can select your print server.

    • 3

Left-click on "Print." This opens the Print window, so you can choose the correct printer to send your document to.

    • 4

Pull down the "Name" menu. This is found near the top of the Print window.

    • 5

Put the mouse pointer over the name of the print server that you want. Left-click to select the print server.

    • 6

Select copies, pages printed and other options. Now, hit the "Print" button.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may need to click on the "Find Printer" button if you are in a networked environment. As long as you know the name of the print server, you shouldn't have any problems.

  • You can also short-cut to the Print window the same way that you did in Windows XP: Ctrl+P.

  • If your print server is disconnected from the network you will not be able to send documents to the server. Your computer may not be able to find it.
