Care for Pearls

Pearls are durable but very delicate. Proper care is required to ensure their elegance and luster. Follow the steps below to care for your valuable pearls. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Use a soft cloth and mineral water to clean the pearls regularly. If necessary, use only mild cleansers such as baby shampoo.

    • 2

Store pearls in a soft cloth or bag separate from other hard jewelry made of diamonds, gems, gold or silver.

    • 3

Put on pearls last, after you are done dressing up. Hair spray, perfume, body spray, make-up and lotions dull their luster.

    • 4

Carry a soft bag with you. When you do not need to wear the pearls, store them in the bag.

    • 5

      Avoid touching the pearls unnecessarily.

    • 6

Avoid wearing pearls for household work and activities that make you sweat.

    • 7

Remove pearls before swimming; chlorine in pool water has a damaging effect.

    • 8

Restring your pearl necklace at least once a year if it is worn frequently. Tie a knot before stringing each pearl so that the pearls don't rub against each other.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never use toothpaste or harsh detergents to clean pearls.
