When you purchase a home theater system you expect to watch your favorite sports as if you where sitting in the stands. Follow these steps so you can feel like you're there--all while you're sitting in your favorite chair.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Position your room for the ultimate sports viewing experience. You'll want to make sure that your seating is a good, viewable distance from the TV. Make sure that you have enough seating for all of your friends and family who might be coming over to watch the game.

  2. Step 2

Wire your system for optimum performance. Make sure that all of the speakers are connected correctly and that their placement is correct. You'll want to place the center speaker or subwoofer in the center of the room near the TV and the two front speakers in the front of the room on opposite sides of each other. Place your rear speakers behind the main seating area for the full effect.

  3. Step 3

Use connections and cables that are rated for best performance. You'll want to hook up the audio directly to the surround system and the video source directly to the TV. Use the best possible video connection composite cables or S Video Cables to give you the best results.

  4. Step 4

Adjust your TV picture in order to achieve the ultimate viewing experience. Sit in the chair where you'll be viewing the sporting event. Adjust the brightness, contrast and color. Also consider using the TV presets. Many TV's have preset picture setups for optimum performance. Look for a "Sports Preset" option. You can use a home theater calibration disc to help you adjust settings.

  5. Step 5

Test out the TV and stereo system and enjoy the game. Try out the speakers and TV to make sure that everything is working properly before the big game. Turn the TV to a sports channel to ensure the picture and sound quality are good.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use Dolby 5.1 or greater for optimal sound quality. Dolby Surround sound will make you feel like you're in the stands.
  • Hide your wiring by cabling through walls or use adhesive cables.
  • Make sure that all of the cables are hooked up correctly to prevent shorting out the TV or stereo system.
