How to Optimize Your Home Theater System With Proper Subwoofer Placement
The subwoofer plays a very important part in your home speaker system. The low bass and dynamic sound that comes from a subwoofer will make you feel more like you're in a movie theater. Follow the steps below to optimize your home theater system with proper subwoofer placement.

1
Place all surround sound speakers in their appropriate places. Then place the subwoofer in a spot that's a reasonable distance away from the TV. You can place the subwoofer along a wall or near the front of your TV.
-
2
Place the subwoofer in a position that will create the desired bass. You'll get more bass out of the subwoofer by placing it near a wall or in a corner against two walls. The bass will then resonate off the walls.

3
Test out multiple positions around your room for the subwoofer. A subwoofer will pretty much work well anywhere in the room because the bass will travel through the room in every direction. Move the subwoofer around the room until you're satisfied with the sound output.

4
Adjust the "phase control" on the subwoofer to your liking. The "phase control" adjustment will change the amount of bass coming out of the speaker. Connect the main speaker wires backwards on the receiver (black to red and red to black). Play music with a good bass line and adjust the "phase control" until you hear minimal bass. Reconnect the speaker wires normally and you'll get the most bass from the subwoofer.

Tips & Warnings
The bass from a subwoofer will increase when it's placed near wall; but you may lose some sound quality in tone.
Try different combinations and sound situations before you make a permanent spot for your subwoofer.
Make sure to disconnect the subwoofer from the stereo before you move it to a new position to avoid breaking the wires.
