Google, Yahoo and all search engines regularly update their search page rankings. When they update these rankings, they look at certain key components of each available page. The easiest way to increase your page rank in the next update is to highlight your improvements on the components the search engines focus on. Follow these steps to find out how.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Website
  1. Step 1

Alter your phrases. Search engines focus on the phrases your page uses and the weight of the key phrase or keywords used. When writing your site’s content, be sure to place the greatest emphasis on the keywords or key phrases. Find out what different keywords search engines look for by visiting Goldranking.com (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

Turn your site into a resource. Search engines will give your page a ranking based in part on how much of a resource they think it is to others. To make your site more of a resource, try to become an authority in your particular area.

  3. Step 3

Ensure that your site is relevant. Search engines also make ranking decisions based on the relevancy of your page in terms of the topic it is about. To make your site more relevant, be sure to provide regular updates and timely information.

  4. Step 4

Partner with other quality sites. Linking to other quality sites and having other quality sites link to your page is a very important factor search engines use in determining rank. Be sure to contact other relevant sites and inquire about forming partnership links. You can also purchase and sell links on websites like LinkAdage.com (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings
  • Find out how much weight is given to your keywords and phrases by using a keyword ranking tool.
  • When linking to sites, see if the search engines consider them to be of quality by checking their search engine ranking.
  • Always update your keywords as the weight given to them constantly changes.

on 5/9/2008 Yes, this is true paying a webmaster for a link can get you black listed by google, also if you are paying for a link most likely its coming from a link farm which will get you black listed anyways, but for more free help check out http://www.improvetrafficnow.com/free_seo_help

on 1/24/2008 good tips, however I hear that Google is adding to their Algorithm a way to penalize you if the links back to your site are paid for. Any word on this?
