Whether it is Google or Yahoo, all search engines determine their search rankings based on certain key components. The easiest way to better your search engine rankings is to focus on the same factors the search engines focus on. Here’s how to do small things that improve your search engine rankings.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Computer
  1. Step 1

Change your phrases. Search engines focus on the phrases you use on your website and the weight of the key phrase or keywords used. When writing your site’s content, be sure to place most of the emphasis on the keywords or key phrases.

  2. Step 2

Make your site a resource. Search engines will judge your site based on how much of a resource they think it is to others. To make your site more of a resource, become an authority in your particular area.

  3. Step 3

Make your site relevant. Search engines also make ranking decisions based on how relevant your site is to the topic. To make your site more relevant, be sure to provide regular updates and timely information.

  4. Step 4

Link with other quality sites. Having other quality sites link to your site to is very important. Search engines look for that. Be sure to contact other relevant sites. Inquire about forming partnership links. If you have friends with sites similar to yours, you could link to them or you could link to a major site by using LinkAdage.com (see Resources below). They offer link buying and selling services.

Tips & Warnings
  • Find out how much weight is given to your keywords and phrases by using a keyword ranking tool.
  • When linking to sites, check their quality factor by checking on their search engine ranking.
  • Always update your keywords. The weight given to them changes constantly.
