Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Turn down the brightness and contrast. In a brightly lit room, you may need higher brightness and contrast, but at night or in normal lighting, you should not use any more than 60 percent contrast.

  2. Step 2

Do not leave static images on the screen. Don't leave a DVD menu up or any other image that does not move very often on the screen for longer than 10 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Turn the screen off when not in use. Rather than leaving the TV on at all times, save energy and strain on the TV by turning it off when you aren't watching.

  4. Step 4

Do not handle replacement tubes without gloves. Oil from your skin will reduce the life span of a tube.

  5. Step 5

Do not mount the TV face down from a ceiling.

  6. Step 6

Keep the TV well ventilated. Keep it away from any sources of heat and make sure it is on a hard, flat surface.

Tips & Warnings
  • Sometimes the contrast setting is called the picture setting.
  • There are memory settings available on some models that automatically change the brightness and contrast according to the time of day.
  • While LCD screens are not prone to "burn-in" or "ghosting," plasma screens will be affected by leaving a static image on-screen.
