Instructions

    • 1

Organize your podcast episodes. Pick a sport of choice. What do you have to say? What do you have to offer? Make sure you prepare, because anyone can say clever things while yelling at a TV screen--creating a compelling sports broadcast takes a bit more skill and prep time.

    • 2

Once you are ready, gather your equipment, hook up your microphone to your computer, open up the software program that you are going to use to record. Some simple options are Audacity or GarageBand.

    • 3

Record! Gather some friends (future sportscasters) together and have fun arguing and discussing the games. Just make sure you're knowledgable, otherwise your listeners will likely jump on you.

    • 4

After you're done, you can edit your podcast and add features. Add chapters so listeners can jump back and forth in between sections if necessary.

    • 5

Add some fun art and background music and noise to create the energy of a sports event out of your podcast.

    • 6

After you're done, put the file onto a server, and then you can take the links and publish them onto your webpage. When you have enough episodes, create an RSS feed for your listeners so they can conveniently subscribe to your podcasts.

Tips & Warnings

  • In the editing process, you can use Ducking to make sure your voice is not drowned out by the music. Ducking automatically lowers the volume of the tracks that you choose as background music.

  • Music is very important. Make sure you pick out your music wisely, and don't use music that is copyrighted. There are plenty of royalty-free music options out there.

  • Test your mp3 file to see that it works and that the material on it is satisfactory before you post it.

Good points. I definitely think you need to decide the angle you want to take the podcast. What makes it different and better than other podcasts or even tv programming? I think that key is cover sports events/highlights - but with some angle (humor, best of, critical, etc.).
