How to Sell Used Books on Amazon

Most everybody does it: clicks on the used books link on Amazon. It's one of the better ways to save money on books online. If you have some books gathering dust on a shelf, you can become one of these sellers.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the Amazon page for the book you want to sell. Underneath the "Add to Shopping Cart" button, you'll see the "Sell yours here" button. Click it.

    • 2

Select the condition: from Used-Acceptable to New. Check the book-make sure if there's writing or highlighting on the pages.

    • 3

Write a short description: 1000 characters or less, such as "Some spine wear, no writing on the pages, good reading copy."

    • 4

Choose the price. Note: go to the used books page for the book. Check and see the other prices of the books. Set the lowest price available (if this is feasible and affordable) or else set your own market value for the book. Another note: Amazon requires that you set the price at least 10% below the Amazon price.

    • 5

Set Shipping type (normally Standard Shipping).

    • 6

Amazon notifies you by email when the book sells. You must ship within two days of the book being sold. Package the book securely and write "Your Amazon Marketplace Puchase" on the envelope. Include a return address. Include the Amazon order slip. You can email the buyer, but this is not required.

Tips & Warnings

  • Books are listed for 60 days and then can be relisted. A Pro-Merchant can list a book until the book sells. If you're going on vacation, or otherwise leaving, within that 60 period, you should think about listing it when you get back-or get someone else to ship the book for you.

  • Money is transferred to your Amazon account every 14 days.

Nice summary. Pro-Merchants can also put their listings on vacation!
