Basically, anyone can sell a book on Amazon. If a book was printed in your garage (and it has an ISBN) Amazon will list it. As it’s one of the top destinations for buying books, this is very important.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • A book
  • ISBN number
  • Amazon Advantage account
  1. Step 1

First, get an ISBN number. It costs $125 for one book. Put the bar code on the back of the book. Also: be sure to include the ISBN number on the copyright page in the book.

  2. Step 2

Sign up for the Amazon Advantage program. Amazon Advantage Professional is for technical manuals, non profits, and other books that might be more expensive. The fee costs $29.95 annually.

  3. Step 3

Submit an application, designate title(s) you want to submit, and wait for approval.

  4. Step 4

Send two copies of the book. Amazon will notify you if the inventory falls below a certain level.

  5. Step 5

Upload reviews, cover jpg, and synopsis. Make sure these look correct on the Amazon page. Submit any corrections if necessary.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can track sales when you log in, but this could almost qualify as a warning: it can be addictive.
  • Payment is issued at the month for copies sold the previous month.
  • Obviously, if you have a publisher, none of this applies, as it will be handled in-house. This is for small publishers and self-publishers (though many popular self-publishing programs will help get the book on Amazon without submitting it directly).
  • If Amazon is not able to sell your title, they may choose to delete the title from the registry and send items back to you. However, you will still retain an Amazon listing if you have books being sold by
  • Amazon sets the price: not necessarily the same as your retail price. You could make 45% off the listed price, or less.

on 8/10/2009 If you are able to link up with a wholesaler like Baker & Taylor, your book will also be automatically listed with Amazon and other major book selling websites. How they stock your book has everything to do with the demand, so you'd better be sure that you implement a book marketing plan that will have people lined up to buy your book! -- Penelope, http://www.howtosellyourbooks.com
