How to get a second line on your mobile phone

Tired of juggling multiple cell phones? Get multiple phone lines on one cell phone instead. So let's say that you have one cell phone for your friends and family, and one cell phone for your business contacts. Now you can ditch the second phone and have all lines on one phone. Or maybe you want a second phone line for dating, selling stuff on eBay, looking for a job, running your side business, or for your Grandma to call you. There have been some attempts at this before, like the Nextel dual SIM phone. Now there's a way to do this on almost any phone, and get more than one additional line, too. Cost is $10 per month and up, but it's generally cheaper than getting a family plan and multiple phones.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Mobile phone with an active plan
  • Data service (Doesn't have to be a data plan, just the ability to access the internet from your phone. Most plans do this automatically)
  • Computer with an internet connection to sign up
Step1
Go to http://www.talkplus.com and click on the signup button.
Step2
They usually have a free trial or some other promotion, so you can check it out for a while before you have to buy. Make sure that you get the freebie.
Step3
After you sign up, you download the app to your phone. It's pretty easy and not as scary as it sounds.
Step4
All calls ring on one phone. When you make a call, you make it through their service, so you can pick which number you want to dial out from. You can add up to 10 numbers to your phone.

Tips & Warnings

  • They usually have a promo. If you don't see it there, they advertise on Google.
  • You do need to have an internet connection and you're still using your regular mobile minutes when you call. So if your phone plan only supports 400 minutes per month, don't use more than that on TalkPlus or you'll be hit with excess carrier charges.
