How to Rip DVDs
Ripping DVDs is somewhat difficult in the age of digital piracy. It's in a moviemaker's financial interest to make it difficult to reproduce movies in any way. However, it is your right as a consumer to exercise your fair use of your own DVDs. To copy a movie to your hard drive for personal use is no crime. If you want to copy a DVD, you'll need to know how to rip DVDs.

Download the classic DVD ripping program called DVD Decrypter. You can download DVD Decrypter from Web sites like Mr. Bass and After Dawn (see Resources). Try to find a site that offers the DVD Decrypter program for free.

Install the program on your computer and open it. Follow the installation instructions once the program has been downloaded. Make sure you follow each of the steps for installation to ensure the DVD Decrypter program is installed correctly.

Select from the pull down menus 1) the disc drive with the DVD you want to burn in it and 2) the folder where you want the ripped files to go. You may want to create a new folder for each movie you rip from a DVD.

Click start, and wait for the DVD to rip. Do not try to remove the DVD until the program is finished or the file will be corrupted. If you want to stop the ripping of the DVD you should click on the Cancel button with your mouse.

Tips & Warnings
You'll need around 8 GB of space on your hard drive to store 1 DVD movie.
It will talk around 10 minutes to rip a DVD depending on the speed of your disc drive.
Do not infringe upon copyright law in your country.
Familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations in your area regarding copyright law before ripping DVDs to your computer.
