How to Store Perfume Properly

Perfume can be very expensive, so it makes sense to store it properly. Fine perfume from one of the top perfume houses will keep for years if you follow a few simple rules. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Remember the three enemies of good perfume: sunlight, heat and air.

    • 2

Store the perfume in a tightly stoppered bottled to keep air from evaporating the scent.

    • 3

Keep the top of the bottle clean. Wipe it with alcohol and let it dry before replacing the stopper.

    • 4

Put the bottle of perfume out of direct sunlight. A dark drawer is not necessary, but may prolong the scent of your perfume even longer.

    • 5

Keep the perfume away from any sources of heat.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your perfume has changed color, sniff it before wearing it. The same three things that affect the scent of fine perfume- air, light and heat- also darken its color.

  • Many fine perfumes come in bottles that are either frosted or made of opaque glass. Just leave them in the original bottle and be sure to put the stopper in tightly.

  • As tempting as it is, don't display that pretty bottle of perfume on your dresser top. The constant exposure to light and heat will speed up the deterioration of the scent.
