As you enter and move through your forties you'll probably find that your skin begins to lose its elasticity and that youthful "plumpness." Your skin will become drier, and fine lines and wrinkles will start to appear. Applying makeup skillfully can help camouflage these first signs of aging,

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Foundation
  • Eyeliner
  • Mascara
  • Lipliner
  • Blush
  • Lipstick
  • Eyeshadow
  • Concealer
  1. Step 1

Wash your face with a hydrating cleanser. Dry with a towel then moisturize and let your skin rest for about five minutes.

  2. Step 2

Apply concealer to red spots, blemishes and under-eye circles. Blend it in well with the fingers.

  3. Step 3

Apply a cream-based moisturizing foundation and blend it in well at the hairline, jawline and in areas where you've used concealer.

  4. Step 4

Seal the foundation with a matte powder. Apply this very sparingly by tapping the brush to loosen excess powder before applying to your face.

  5. Step 5

Apply eyeshadow. Over your lids, use a base that matches your natural skin tone. Apply the contour color above the outside corner of the eyes and up to the crease of the lid to open up the eye area. Choose a neutral shade for a natural look or user a darker color to create a more dramatic look.

  6. Step 6

Lift the appearance of your eyes by applying a cream eyeshadow that's slightly lighter than your natural skin color across the brow bone. Blend it in well to avoid creating sharply defined areas of color.

  7. Step 7

    Apply mascara as normal.

  8. Step 8

Use a lip-liner to outline your lips. If they're a little thinner than you'd like, blend a small amount of concealer around the lip area, then apply liner just outside your natural lip line.

  9. Step 9

Fill in your lip color using a lip brush.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a powder-based foundation only if you have very oily skin.
  • Choose products that hydrate your skin to help keep your make-up looking fresh throughout the day.
  • Avoid shimmering, metallic and frosted colors, especially around the eyes. These will only draw attention to problem areas.
