Yellow nails can really ruin the look of otherwise attractive hands. If you've got yellow nails, treat them to remove the discoloration, then avoid further staining with these simple tips.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pale nail polish
  • Cigarette holder
  • Base coat
  • Nail polish remover
  1. Step 1

Stop smoking! It's bad for your overall health as well as your nails. If you really can't quit, use a cigarette holder so that nicotine doesn't stain your fingers.

  2. Step 2

Apply a base coat before applying color polish on your nails.

  3. Step 3

Use pale shades of nail polish rather than dark ones. The darker colors are much more likely to cause yellow stains.

  4. Step 4

Use a nail polish remover that doesn't contain acetone. This chemical can cause yellow stains and weaken your nails as well.

Tips & Warnings
  • See the related eHow "How to Whiten Yellow Nails" for tips on removing stains from your nails.
  • Don't use nail polishes that are advertised as a base coat, polish and top coat all-in-one. These are never as effective as using a proper base coat.
