Back in the day, there were radio shows with comedy acts. Now comedians have albums. And, perhaps soon, you will see more personalities coming out with podcasts in various formats. Here's how you would make a podcast showcasing your comedic work.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • microphone
  • computer
  • podcasting software
  • web server
  • some sketches or comedy bits
  1. Step 1

Organize your episodes. Is it a one-man stand-up show? Is it going to showcase sketches performed by a comedy troupe? Will it be musings on various topics in life?

  2. Step 2

Write out your script and practice it until you're ready.

  3. Step 3

When you're ready to record, all you have to do is hook up your microphone to your computer and use a program such as Audacity or GarageBand, which will capture your voices onto the computer. If you have various speakers or performers, you can either hook up multiple microphones, use a omnidirectional mike, or record the two separately and put it together through editing. Whatever fits your show.

  4. Step 4

Convert your recording into an mp3 file, if it doesn't do so automatically.

  5. Step 5

Open up a podcasting software program so you can edit your podcast. If you want, you can add features, such as pictures and links.

  6. Step 6

Fill out the ID3 tags and add a description, so people will know what they are about to listen to. The description is the chance to sell your podcast and to tell the listener everything they need to know before they start. This information also helps people search for your podcast.

  7. Step 7

After you're done, put the file onto a server, and then you can take the links and publish them onto your webpage.

  8. Step 8

When you have enough episodes, create an RSS feed for your listeners so they can conveniently subscribe to your podcasts.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add chapters so listeners can jump back and forth in between sections if necessary.
  • If you are adding background music or something for the intro/outro, don't use copy-righted music. There are a lot of royalty-free music sites you can get music from. Or you can compose your own or ask your music friends to let you use their jingles.
