Being involved in a robbery can be a traumatic experience. Reporting the crime to the police is an important step. Find out how to do it effectively.

Step1
After the robbery, remain calm. Take a few deep breaths and collect your thoughts.
Step2
Dial 911 as soon as possible. Tell the operator where you are and describe your injuries, if relevant.
Step3
Resist the urge to shower or clean yourself off in the moments following a robbery. Doing so could potentially damage or destroy evidence.
Step4
Speak to a victim's advocate. You can locate on through the National Center for Victims of Crime (see Resources below).
Step5
Go to the police station to fill out a formal report.
Step6
Keep in mind that you may remain anonymous when identifying a suspect.
