Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
The Web site Team DUI (see Resources below) is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Driving Under the Influence Association and features schedules for treatment courses and statistics on DUI issues.
Step2
Administrative license revocation (ALR) is mandatory for a year in all DUI cases but DUI offenders can reduce the points on their licenses or time spent in assessment courses (see Resources below).
Step3
Ignition Interlock Devices are required for DUI offenders after their second offense. According to a 2000 act of the Pennsylvania state legislature, DUI offenders must have these devices installed for twelve months. These devices prevent drivers with a blood alcohol content (BAC) over 0.025 from operating their vehicle (see Resources below).
Step4
Penalties can often be reduced when a defendant works with a qualified attorney. You can work with a state-provided public defender if you lack the funds to hire a lawyer. Find a qualified attorney through the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (see Resources below).
Step5
Cooperate with Pennsylvania State Patrol officers and local police during a traffic stop. Drivers accused of DUI must submit to field sobriety testing. Uncooperative drivers can be penalized for their DUI offense and for blocking an investigation.
