Go online with a computer that your abuser cannot access. A computer savvy person can track pages visited online, so it's best to perform research at a library or other public facility.

Visit the Web site run by Women'sLaw.org. This group is dedicated to providing information on domestic violence in all states, including Florida.

Select ''FL'' from the ''Select State'' drop-down menu on the page. This will guide you to legal information specific to Florida.

Scroll down the page and access ''How to Get a Restraining Order." Take notes or print out any information on the penalties for domestic violence in Florida.

E-mail any further questions to Women'sLaw.org.

Contact the national helpline for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (see Resources below). The operators are trained to deal with domestic violence situations.
