Step 1
Identify your risk factors. White men get this disease at higher rates than women and African-American men. Smoking is a proven risk factor. Chronic exposure to chemicals in the workplace is another risk factor.
-
Step 2
Drink plenty of liquids. People who drink lots of water or other beverages have a decreased risk of bladder cancer.
-
Step 1
Recognize common symptoms of bladder cancer, such as blood in the urine or pain when urinating. Any noticeable or prolonged change in urinating habits (e.g., urinating more often) can be a sign of bladder cancer.
-
Step 2
Consult with your doctor if you frequently have trouble urinating or have a desire to urinate but feel unable to do so. These can be symptoms of bladder cancer.
-
Step 1
Become healthier. Quit smoking and eat a diet richer in fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Both of these measures can help you in the fight against bladder cancer.
-
Step 2
Get treated early for bladder cancer if it is diagnosed. Your chances of surviving bladder cancer are better if you get treatment early.
