Things You'll Need:
- Computer with Internet access
- Oncologist
-
Step 1
Talk to the primary care physician of the doctor who is overseeing your friend or loved one's prostate cancer treatment. Ask what you can do to provide for his comfort.
-
Step 2
Accompany your loved one to and from treatment sessions and medical consultations. Your emotional support will be greatly appreciated, and you can also help the patient remember everything he was told by his medical team.
-
Step 3
Be there for your loved one. Help out with day-to-day tasks which may have become too difficult for him to complete. Communicate with the patient. Ask if there's anything you can do to further provide for his comfort.
-
Step 4
Take care of yourself, too. Supporting a loved one who has prostate cancer can be very difficult. Make sure you get enough rest, and seek support services if the strain of seeing a loved one suffer with prostate cancer becomes overwhelming.
-
Step 1
Make a donation to prostate cancer research through the American Cancer Society (see Resources below) or an organization devoted specifically to the fight against prostate cancer.
-
Step 2
Volunteer your time. Many prostate cancer patients need specialized attention, and you can help by offering a few hours of your time each week. Many fundraising efforts are also in great need of people to coordinate and execute them.
-
Step 3
Become an advocate. Join a group that fights for governmental legislation that prioritizes care of cancer patients. Make sure the call for a cure is heard loud and clear by all.
