Konqueror is part of the KDE software package. That means in order to install Konqueror, you must first obtain and install KDE. Fortunately, KDE is readily available from the Konqueror Web site (see Resources below). Once you download and install all parts of KDE, you will have Konqueror available to you. All you have to do then is open it up and you can start surfing the Web in style with Konqueror.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Working Internet hook-up
  • Computer

Step1
Open your favorite Web browser and visit the Konqueror home page (see Resources below).
Step2
Go to the tab labeled 'Download' and click on 'Download Konqueror.'
Step3
Select 'How to Install KDE.'
Step4
Read the download instructions, as they are complex. You will be shown URLs to the several different components of KDE. Each component must be installed separately. Click the first component.
Step5
Choose a location. KDE is available in many different locations, and versions of KDE are being uploaded to the Internet all the time. Konqueror's Web site will show you the URLs of the latest versions of KDE to be added to the Internet and when they were uploaded. Select the URL you wish to download to your computer by clicking on it.
Step6
Follow the automated prompts for installing your KDE component. When you are finished, go back to the page with the list of the other components on Konqueror's Web site and repeat steps 5 and 6 with each successive component of KDE until you have installed each.
Step7
Install Konqueror. Once KDE is saved to your computer and operational, open it up and follow the automated instructions for setting up and running Konqueror.
Step8
Enjoy Konqueror! Once Konqueror has been extracted from KDE and installed on your computer, you can begin using it to surf the Internet with ease.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have additional questions regarding how to install Konqueror, go straight to Konqueror's FAQs page (see Resources below).
  • There are 19 different components to KDE that need to be installed on your computer. Konqueror is in the component called 'kdebase.'
  • In order to download and use Konqueror, your computer must be running on a Unix operating system.
  • Konqueror is a relatively new program. While it does take measures to protect you from viruses, spyware and hackers online (such as by not accepting third-party cookies without your permission), you may find it beneficial to install an adware/spyware blocker and virus protection software to your computer to run concurrently with Konqueror.
  • If you're running any version of Konqueror other than 3.5.2, these steps may not apply.
