Your computer's file manager is where all of the important programs that make your computer run are stored. In Konqueror's file manager, you are able to access these files and manipulate them to your personal needs. You may, for example, choose to move your files to other locations in the file manager (to make them easier for you to find), re-name the files or delete them entirely.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Connection to the Internet
  • Computer with a Unix-based operating system

Step1
Boot up your computer and enter Konqueror.
Step2
Click on the 'Home Directory' button.
Step3
View the folders in the directory.
Step4
Find information about a file. To see information about a particular file, such as its name, owner, type and size, click on 'View' and then select 'Text View.'
Step5
Copy or move your files. Click on the file you want to move and drag it with your mouse to the desired location. Release the mouse button to drop the file into place. At this point, you will be asked if you want to copy, move or link the file to the new location.
Step6
Re-name a file by clicking 'Properties' and then entering the new name of the file in the provided box.
Step7
Open up a file by clicking on that file. The program that is in the file should then start to run on your computer.
Step8
Get rid of unwanted or unecessary files. Click on the file to be removed, drag it to the Trash icon and drop it in. To get rid of the file entirely, click on the file, then select 'Delete' from the provided list of options. The file will be completely eliminated from your computer. If you want there to be absolutely no chance of recovering this file, select the file and click 'Shred' from the provided options.
