During your Internet travels, you will come across certain Web sites that you especially enjoy. Rather than having to remember the URLs of your favorite Web sites or write them down and then have to store the paper in a convenient place, you can choose to bookmark those sites. When you create bookmarks in your Web browser, you are saving the name and URL of your chosen sites directly into a folder in the browser. After you bookmark a site, you can open your browser, go to that folder and click on the name of the site. Like most Web browsers, Konqueror offers a bookmarking feature that is simple to use and a wonderful enhancement to your browsing experience.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet connection
  • Computer with a Unix-based operating system
  1. Step 1

Power up your computer and open Konqueror.

  2. Step 2

Locate the 'Bookmark' tab on the toolbar.

  3. Step 3

Click on 'Edit Bookmarks.' This will cause a new window to open in Konqueror.

  4. Step 4

Enter the URLs of the Web sites you wish to bookmark into the 'Toolbar' section. Once the URLS are entered there, they will also appear in the 'Bookmarks' tab when you click on that.

  5. Step 5

Use your bookmarks. Any time you wish to visit a Web site you have bookmarked, just open up the 'Bookmarks' tab, find the Web site you want to go to and click on it. Konqueror will take you straight to that site.

Tips & Warnings
  • You must have a Unix-based operating system to use Konqueror.
  • If you have further questions regarding how to add bookmarks in Konqueror, head to the Konqueror FAQ page (see Resources below).
  • Download Konqueror from the Konqueror home page (see Resources below).
  • These steps were written for Konqueror 3.5.2. If you're running a prior version, some or all of these steps may differ.
  • Beware of third party cookies. These little spy programs allow the Web sites from which they originate to monitor your movements online. While most Web sites have cookies, you should only accept them from sites you trust. Konqueror will not accept third party cookies unless you give it specific instructions to do so. This is one of the many measures Konqueror takes to ensure your privacy and protection while online.
  • Do not use 'Edit Toolbars' to try to add bookmarks to Konqueror, as this can cause the system to freeze up or crash.
