How to Adjust Your Browser Appearance in Firefox

With a cutting-edge browser like Firefox, you have the ability to adjust the appearance of your browser depending on your personal preferences. Why browse the Internet through an unattractive lens when you can adjust that lens to your liking? Adjust sizes, colors and fonts for readability or personal preference.

  1. Step 1

    Launch the Firefox browser.

  2. Step 2

    Select View from the list of menu options along the top of the screen. The drop-down menu will display the many categories in which you can tweak your browser's appearance.

  3. Step 3

    Click on Toolbars to decide which of the toolbars you want revealed within the browser window. There is also the Customize option, which opens a small window that allows you to drag and drop items were you like.

  4. Step 4

    Choose Status Bar or Sidebar to further change the appearance. Text size can also be increased or decreased from the View menu.

  5. Step 5

    Remember that you can completely change the appearance of the buttons and the background of the browser by downloading a new theme (see Resources below).

  • Find the Firefox download link within the Mozilla Web site (see Resources below).
  • Search for information about learning how to properly use the Firefox Web browser by visiting the support pages of their Web site (see Resources below).
  • Ready your computer for a Firefox download by checking to see if it has the minimum system requirements. Mac users should have a PowerPC G3 processor, 128 MB of RAM, 75 MB of free disk space and be running Mac OS X 10.2 or higher. Those running Windows need Windows 98 or higher, a minimum 233 Mhz processor, 64 MB of RAM and 50 MB of free disk space. Linux requires a Linux kernel 2.2.14, a 233 Mhz processor, 64 MB of RAM and 50 MB of free disk space.
  • Surf the Internet safely with the numerous security features built into the Firefox browser, including the ability to detect forged sites.
  • The steps described here apply to Firefox version 2.0.0.2. If you have a prior version, consider upgrading.
