How to Store Logins and Passwords in Firefox

As you begin to browse the Web with Firefox, you will likely start to accumulate more and more usernames and passwords. It can be hard to remember them all sometimes. Fortunately, Firefox easily stores your logins and passwords so that you don't have to keep all of that information in your head.

Tips & Warnings

  • Download Firefox 2 at the Mozilla Web site (see Resources below).

  • Make sure your computer meets Firefox's minimum requirements. For Macs, these include a PowerPC G3 processor running Mac OS X 10.2 or greater, 75 MB of space on your hard drive and 128 MB of RAM. For Windows, you'll need a 233 Mhz processor, 50 MB of space on your hard drive, 64 MB of RAM and Windows 98 or greater. If you are using Linux, you must have a 233 Mhz processor, 64MB of RAM and 50 MB of free hard drive space. You'll also need Linux kernel 2.2.14 (with glibc 2.3.2, XFree86-3.3.6, gtk+2.0, fontconfig/xft and libstdc++5).

  • For the best Firefox experience using Windows, Mozilla recommends a 500 Mhz processor, 256 MB of RAM, 100 MB of free hard drive space and Windows XP.

  • To maximize your security while on the Web, always use the most current version of Firefox.

  • If you're running a version of Firefox other than 2.00.2, note that some or all of these steps may not apply. Consider upgrading to Firefox 2 as it can be downloaded for free and runs on Windows, Mac OS and Linux.
