How to Import Bookmarks in Firefox

If you have a large number of saved Web sites stored on other Web browsers, you may want to import them into Firefox. The process is very simple and once you have imported your bookmarks into Firefox, you'll be able to easily visit your favorite Web sites.

How to Import Bookmarks in Firefox

Step 1

Start Firefox, then select 'Bookmarks' from the menu bar. Choose 'Organize Bookmarks' from the drop-down menu. The 'Bookmarks Manager' window will open.
Step 2

Click 'File' in the 'Bookmarks Manager' window and select 'Import' from the menu.
Step 3

Choose the location from which you want to import bookmarks. You have 2 choices: another browser or a file.
Step 4

Click 'Next' after making your selection to begin importing bookmarks. Selecting to import from a file will open another window that allows you to browse for the correct file on your computer.

Tips & Warnings

If you are going to import bookmarks from a file rather than from another browser, look for files named 'Bookmarks.html.' If your current browser does not save the bookmarks in HTML file format, consider saving the bookmarks in HTML before trying to import them into Firefox.

To use Firefox, your computer must meet the minimum hardware requirements. These include a 233 Mhz processor, 64 MB of RAM, 50 MB of hard drive free space and Windows 98 or greater. For Macs, you'll need a PowerPC G3 processor, 128 MB of RAM, 75 MB of space on your hard drive and Mac OS X 10.2.x.
Though not required, Mozilla recommends that Windows users have a 500 Mhz processor, 256 MB of RAM, 100 MB of free hard drive space and Windows XP.
Note that Firefox supports Linux, as well. The minimum requirements are a 233 Mhz processor, 64MB of RAM, 50 MB of available hard drive space and Linux kernel 2.2.14 (with glibc 2.3.2, XFree86-3.3.6, gtk+2.0, fontconfig/xft and libstdc++5).
To maximize your security while on the Web, always use the most current version of Firefox.
Because these steps were written using Firefox 2.00.2 as a guide, they may not apply to other versions. Consider upgrading to Firefox 2 if you haven't done so already--it's free to download and use.
