How to Install Quicktime in Firefox

Quicktime is made by Apple, but is available for Windows-based computers as well. Install Quicktime in Firefox so that you can enjoy Web sites that offer Quicktime-based content, such as movie trailers and other video content.

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access

    Download Quicktime to Your Computer

  1. Step 1

    Open a new browser window using Firefox.

  2. Step 2

    Visit the Firefox plugins Web page (see Resources below).

  3. Step 3

    Scroll down to the Quicktime box. Look for your operating system. Beneath each operating system, you'll see a link with a version number.

  4. Step 4

    Click the version number available for your operating system. You will be taken to the Quicktime download page.

  5. Step 5

    Click the 'Free Download Now' button.

  6. Step 6

    Click 'Save File' in the 'Opening Quicktime installer' window.

  7. Install Quicktime in Firefox

  8. Step 1

    Locate the Quicktime download on your computer and double click the program. If you didn't change the default location, you'll find the installation icon on your desktop.

  9. Step 2

    Read the welcome message and click 'Next' to proceed.

  10. Step 3

    View the 'License Agreement' and click 'Yes' when you are finished.

  11. Step 4

    Click the 'Install' button to begin the installation.

  12. Step 5

    Click the 'Finish' button when the installation is completed.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you already have Quicktime 5.0 or greater on your computer, Firefox can use the plugin that came with Quicktime.
  • To use Firefox, your computer needs to meet minimum hardware requirements. For Windows, the minimum requirement is a 233 Mhz processor, 64 MB of RAM, 50 MB of free space on your hard drive and Windows 98 or later. The minimum requirements for a Mac are a PowerPC G3 processor, 128 MB of RAM, 75 MB of space on your hard drive and Mac OS X 10.2.x. If you are using Linux, the minimum requirements are a 233 Mhz processor, 64MB of RAM, 50 MB of available hard drive space and Linux kernel 2.2.14 (with glibc 2.3.2, XFree86-3.3.6, gtk+2.0, fontconfig/xft and libstdc++5).
  • To maximize your security while on the Web, always use the most current version of Firefox. New versions have stronger security features and necessary code patches.
  • Download Firefox 2 at the Mozilla Web site (see Resources below).
  • Get help using Firefox by visiting the Mozilla support page (see Resources below).
  • These directions were written for Firefox 2.0.0.2. If you're running a prior version of Firefox, consider downloading the newest version.
