How to Install Flash in Firefox

Many Web sites use Adobe Flash to customize and enrich the experience of visitors to the site. In order to interact with the flash elements, you will need to install a Flash player on your computer. Flash is compatible with Firefox and is available to download from Adobe. Flash is also great for playing quick, fun games that don't have to be installed on your computer.

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access

    Install Flash in Firefox

  1. Step 1

    Ensure that your system can meet the requirements for Flash. If you're running Windows, you need Intel Pentium II 450MHz or faster processor (or equivalent) and 128 MB of RAM.

  2. Step 2

    Go to the Adobe Flash page to access the downloading page (see Resources below).

  3. Step 3

    Download Adobe Flash for Firefox (see Resources below).

  4. Step 4

    Double-click the 'Install Flash Player' program when the download is finished. The program will automatically extract itself and perform a self-installation. You don't have to make any selections during the installation process.

  5. Step 5

    Restart Firefox if it was open during the installation. This will cause Firefox to recognize that Adobe Flash is now installed.

Tips & Warnings
  • For the best Firefox experience using Windows, Mozilla recommends a 500 Mhz processor, 256 MB of RAM, 100 MB of free hard drive space and Windows XP.
  • Firefox 2 notifies you with a message when security updates are available to download from Mozilla. Updates are provided for Firefox to help keep you safe when using the Web and are part of Mozilla's ongoing effort make a more secure Web browser.
  • These directions were written for Firefox 2.00.2. If you are running a different version of Firefox, these steps may not apply. You may want to download the latest version of Firefox by visiting the Mozilla Web site.
  • Flash software is updated regularly. For Flash programming to display correctly, you will need to stay current with these updates.
