How to Install Firefox

To begin enjoying Firefox, you will need to learn how to install Firefox after your download is complete. The process is very simple and only takes minutes. You will then be able to start enjoying Firefox immediately. You don't even need to restart your computer after the installation is finished.

Learn How to Install Firefox

1. Download Firefox from the Mozilla Web site (see Resources below).
2. Locate the download on your computer (usually there's a shortcut installed on the desktop) and double-click the icon to begin the installation. The program will extract itself.
3. Click the 'Next' button in the 'Mozilla Firefox Setup' box.
4. Read the license agreement. Click the 'I accept the terms in the License Agreement' radio button.
5. Click the 'Next' button to advance past the agreement screen.
6. Choose the 'Standard' or 'Custom' install by selecting the corresponding radio button. Choosing custom installation allows you to decide if you want to also install the DOM Inspector and the Quality Feedback Agent.
7. Click 'Next' after making your selection. The installation will begin immediately if you choose the 'Standard' installation.
8. Click the 'Finish' button when Firefox completes the installation. If you want to immediately begin using Firefox, check the box labeled 'Launch Mozilla Firefox Now.'

Tips & Warnings

• Download Firefox 2 at the Mozilla Web site (see Resources below).
• To use Firefox, your computer needs to meet minimum hardware requirements. For Windows, the minimum requirement is a 233 Mhz processor, 64 MB of RAM, 50 MB of free space on your hard drive and Windows 98 or greater. The minimum requirements for a MAC are a PowerPC G3 processor, 128 MB of RAM, 75 MB of space on your hard drive and Mac OS X 10.2.x. If you are using Linux, the minimum requirements are a 233 Mhz processor, 64MB of RAM, 50 MB of available hard drive space and Linux kernel 2.2.14.
• Firefox 2 notifies you with a message when security updates are available to download from Mozilla. Updates are provided for Firefox to help keep you safe when using the Web, another reason why Firefox is considered to be one of the safest Web browsers.
• These directions were written for Firefox 2.00.2. If you are running a prior version of Firefox, some of these steps may not apply. Consider downloading Firefox 2 for free.
