How to Edit Documents Written in MathML in Amaya

Those familiar with the MathML programming language will be excited to know the Amaya editor allows you to edit documents written in MathML. The Math Markup Language is intended to help math to be more realized on the Internet, just as HTML has helped text become alive and accessible online.

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access

    Edit Documents Written in MathML Using Amaya

  1. Step 1

    Start your editing by launching the Amaya browser and editor and opening the desired document.

  2. Step 2

    Point your mouse toward the document written all or partly in MathML and decide which of the many editing functions you would like to utilize.

  3. Step 3

    Click on 'XML' in the menu bar and slide down to 'Basic Elements' on the drop-down menu. Some of the elements include Number (mn), Plain Text (mtext), Space (mspace) and Identifier (mi).

  4. Step 4

    Choose 'Constructions' within the 'XML' menu option and you can edit formulas by creating new constructs. There are currently 11 different constructs, including Enclose (menclose), Square Root (msqrt) and many different types of expressions.

  5. Step 5

    Utilize the 'Character' command within the 'XML' drop-down menu. This function can be used to input symbols or math characters not normally found on a keyboard.

  6. Step 6

    Create a new matrix (mtable) by clicking on the 'XML' link, selecting 'Matrices' and then clicking 'Create New Matrix.'

Tips & Warnings
  • Get the latest version of the Amaya web browser and editor by going to their main page on the W3 Web site (see Resources below).
  • Prepare to run Amaya on a computer with the minimum system requirements. For Windows, you'll need to run Windows 95 or higher. Mac users must be running OS X Jaguar (10.2) or higher.
  • Find more extensive information about using Amaya through the Amaya User Manual (see Resources below).
  • Roam the Internet in safety using the Amaya browser. Security features such as pop-up blockers are in place. In addition, the Amaya Project is always being updated and improved upon in every area, including security.
  • These steps are for the latest version of Amaya (9.54) and not for previous versions. Applying the directions on this page to older Amaya versions will more than likely not work out.
