If you have a lot of bookmarks on your Netscape Web browser, it is important to be able to transfer them easily to another Web browser. Fortunately, it's relatively easy to make the switch from Netscape to Firefox with your bookmarks intact.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • PC with Internet access

Change Your Netscape Appearance

Step1
Think about simply changing the appearance of your Netscape Web browser instead of switching browsers. Those who like the layout of Firefox can use a Firefox-style layout to browse Netscape comfortably.
Step2
Start at Netscape's Web site (see Resources below).
Step3
Click on the 'Site Controls' panel.
Step4
Choose the layout you want by selecting the radio button that corresponds to Firefox.
Step5
Click the 'OK' button to finish altering your Web browser's appearance.
Step6
Begin by clicking on 'Tools' and then 'Options.'

Transfer Your Bookmarks and Settings to Firefox

Step1
Download Firefox from the Mozilla Web site (see Resources below) if you decide that changing Netscape's appearance isn't enough.
Step2
Open a fresh browser window through Firefox.
Step3
Click on 'File' and then click on 'Import.'
Step4
Click on Netscape in the radio button options.
Step5
Click the 'Next' button to continue the process of importing your bookmarks and cookies.
Step6
Wait while Firefox loads your bookmarks and cookies from Netscape. Click on the 'Finish' button to complete this task.

Transfer Your Default Browser to Firefox

Step1
Click on 'Tools' and then select 'Options.'
Step2
Click on the 'Main' button.
Step3
Click on the 'Restore to Default' button to set the default page.
Step4
Ensure that the box is labeled 'Always Check To See If Firefox Is The Default Browser On Startup.'
Step5
Click the 'OK' button.
