How to Migrate From Internet Explorer to Netscape

Migrating your data from Internet Explorer to Netscape is an important option for Internet users. Many people find it extremely important that they are able to switch bookmarks and cookies to another Web browser. Luckily, it's a relatively easy process to accomplish.

Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

  • PC with Internet access

Download and Install Netscape 8.1.2

Step1
Navigate to the Netscape Web site to find the newest version of the Web browser (see Resources below).
Step2
Click on the 'Free Download' button to begin the download process.
Step3
Click 'Save As' in the prompt window that will appear.
Step4
Wait until Netscape 8.1.2 has downloaded completely. Click on the link in your Netscape Download Manager.
Step5
Click on 'Next' to continue the installation process.
Step6
Review the Terms and Conditions located in the pop-up. Click on the 'I Agree' radio button after you finish reading Netscape's stipulations for use.
Step7
Type your zip code into the specified field and click 'Install' to begin the automatic installation process.

Personalize Your Browser

Step1
Install a theme to personalize your browser. Try Modern Modoki 2.01 (see Resources below).
Step2
Click on the 'Install Theme' button and then click on 'Install Now' in your pop-up window.
Step3
Select the Modern Modoki theme in the pop-up window on your screen.
Step4
Click 'Use Theme.'
Step5
Restart Netscape to set your theme.

Import Your Bookmarks to Migrate from Internet Explorer

Step1
Click 'File' and then 'Import' to begin importing your bookmarks.
Step2
Choose your option for the Web browser you would like to import your bookmarks from.
Step3
Choose the radio button that is marked Internet Explorer and click 'Next.'
Step4
Check off your preferred areas to import, including bookmarks ('Favorites'), Internet options, saved passwords and cookies.

Click 'Next' to import your choices.
Step6
Click the 'Finish' button to complete the task.

  • Download Netscape 8.1.2 on Netscape's Web site (see Resources below).
  • Ensure that your computer meets minimum requirements for Netscape 8.1.2. You will need to have a 233 MHz processor, 64 MB of RAM, 35 MB of hard drive space, and a Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows 98 SE or ME system.

  • Know that Netscape has improved security significantly with this new version. Netscape has new layers to protect against hackers who want to steal your personal details.
  • These directions are written for Netscape 8.1.2, and if you are running an earlier version of the browser, the steps could be different.
