How to Find and Install SeaMonkey Add-Ons

SeaMonkey is Mozilla's newest application suite and allows users to have the luxury of a Web browser, email access and newsgroups, among other features, without having to open multiple tabs or screens. In addition, SeaMonkey allows users to have add-ons that make using SeaMonkey even more convenient.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access

    Download and Install SeaMonkey

  1. Step 1

    Enter the address for the SeaMonkey home page into your address bar (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

    Click on the 'Download Now' link that matches the operating system your computer uses.

  3. Step 3

    Close any programs you may be running to avoid interfering with the installation process.

  4. Step 4

    Read and accept the Mozilla SeaMonkey licensing agreement to continue.

  5. Step 5

    Select the level of SeaMonkey that you would like to install based on the number of features included. Some users choose to install the browser function only, while others prefer having access to the full range of SeaMonkey features.

  6. Find an Add-On for SeaMonkey

  7. Step 1

    Start at the Mozilla Suite Add-Ons page. There are multiple categories listed that include blogging, entertainment, languages and news reading. They also have a 'Popular' link that lists the add-ons that other SeaMonkey users download most as well as a 'Top Rated' link that lists the add-ons that users feel perform the best.

  8. Step 2

    Perform a search for other add-ons and other resources. There are some SeaMonkey specific sites that offer different add-ons than the Mozilla page.

  9. Install an Add-On to Your SeaMonkey Application Suite

  10. Step 1

    Click on the link of the add-on you want on the Mozilla Suite Ad-Ons page. Read the details closely to be sure it's compatible with SeaMonkey.

  11. Step 2

    Click on the link that says 'Install Now' on the overview page for that add-on.

  12. Step 3

    Click on the 'Install' button to allow the installation to begin.

  13. Step 4

    Click the 'OK' button to finish.

  14. Step 5

    Completely exit and restart SeaMonkey for your add-on to be included on your browser.

Tips & Warnings
  • Each description of the add-ons on the Mozilla add-ons page includes comments and user ratings so that you can determine if it is what you are looking for.
  • SeaMonkey is available only to users of Mac OS X 10.2 or higher, Windows 95-XP and Linux operating systems with 64 MB RAM and 100 MB free disk space available.
  • Consider using SeaMonkey's Download Manager feature when installing new programs and software.
  • SeaMonkey version 1.1.1 was used to provide these instructions. Check for new directions with updated versions.

on 8/4/2008 Does Seamonkey have a selection Firefox tools pulldown has addons to see what addons installed/enabled? I didn't see that here.
