How to Find and Install Plugins for SeaMonkey

With the wide variety of programs being used to create various Web site functions comes a need to view and play the different applications. Plugins such as Acrobat Reader, Windows Media Player and Adobe Flash allow for users to view Web sites and features that a browser cannot normally access.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access

Download and Install the SeaMonkey Software Application Suite

Step1
Load the SeaMonkey home page (see Resources below).
Step2
Close any virus protection programs you are running in order to allow your new program to install.
Step3
Choose your download based on your operating system.
Step4
Click on the 'Run' button to run the installation program.
Step5
Install the Complete option to take advantage of all of the SeaMonkey features. Choose the 'Browser only' option to use SeaMonkey as your Internet browser or 'Custom' to select only the features you want to include.

Find the Plugins That You Want to Install

Step1
Start at the Mozilla Add-ons home page (see Resources below).
Step2
Choose from the plugins that are offered or choose the plugin you need to open a specific program or file such as a PDF or music file.
Step3
Select the operating system you are using from Windows, Linux or Mac.
Step4
Click on the link that says 'Latest Version' or the link for the version you want to download.
Step5
Download the plugin from the home page of the company that owns the program.

Download and Install the Plugin

Step1
Click on the 'Download' button or link.
Step2
Choose a file location and save the plugin file to your computer.
Step3
Choose to 'Launch File' from the Download Manager pop up window.
Step4
Click on the 'Validate' button if you need to validate your program.
Step5
Accept the terms of use to complete downloading and installing the program.

Tips & Warnings

  • Search for Mozilla forums and message boards to get tips or help from other SeaMonkey users.
  • Users of Windows 95-XP, Mac OS X 10.2 or higher and Linux are able to use SeaMonkey. They should also have at least 64 MB RAM and 100 KB of free disk space.
  • Be sure to read the terms of service and user agreements when downloading software and programs to avoid violating any rules and regulations.
  • The directions for installing plugins are based on version 1.1.1 of SeaMonkey. Updated versions may use different instructions.
