How to Download and Install SeaMonkey

SeaMonkey suite, an extension of Mozilla, is a free application software suite that takes many Web features and combines them into a single program. It is an update of both the Mozilla suite and the Netscape suite and can be downloaded for Windows, Linux and Mac users.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access

    Prepare to Download SeaMonkey on Your Computer

  1. Step 1

    Go to the Mozilla SeaMonkey home page (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

    Close all other programs you are running including any virus protection you may have.

  3. Step 3

    Be sure you have the allowed operating system requirements as stated by the SeaMonkey home page.

  4. Step 4

    Click on the link for the operating system you have in the 'Download Now' box. Choose from Windows, Linux GTK2, Mac OS X or Other Systems & Languages.

  5. Download the SeaMonkey Suite to Your Computer

  6. Step 1

    Choose to 'Run' or 'Save' the file from the pop up window. Choose 'Run' to continue the installation.

  7. Step 2

    Click on the 'Run' link when it asks if you want to run the software program.

  8. Install SeaMonkey for Your Computer

  9. Step 1

    View the SeaMonkey Welcome Pop-Up window.

  10. Step 2

    Close all Windows programs you have running before clicking 'Next' to proceed with the installation.

  11. Step 3

    Read the licensing agreement and then click the 'Accept' button to continue installation.

  12. Step 4

    Choose to install 'Browser only' for minimal options, 'Complete' for all of the options, or 'Custom' to select the options you want yourself. Select the radio button that corresponds to your answer and click the 'Next' button.

  13. Step 5

    Check the box if you want to add the Quick Start icon to your Windows taskbar tray for faster startups.

  14. Step 6

    Make sure the programs you want are being installed. The 'Complete' package includes a navigator, mail and newsgroups, spellchecker, chatzilla, debugger, inspector, roaming and Web site reporter. Click on the 'Install' button when you are ready to install.

  15. Step 7

    Double-click the SeaMonkey icon to begin using the browser.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always make sure you trust a program and the provider before downloading to avoid computer viruses that can harm your computer.
  • Visit the Mozilla Support link on the SeaMonkey home page for frequently asked questions and user forums.
  • SeaMonkey only works with Linux operating systems, versions of Windows between Windows 95 and Windows XP as well as Mac OS X systems 10.2 or higher. Users must also have at least 64 MB RAM and 100 MB of free hard disk space available.
  • These installation directions are for version 1.1.1 of SeaMonkey. Check updates for new instructions.
