Internet Explorer's security features are ready to go when you get the program. These features are designed to help you navigate the Internet safely and without worry of being attacked by malicious programming. After all, viruses, worms and spyware abound in the virtual world of the Web. An unprotected computer (and you, by extension) is vulnerable to all sorts of bad things, including destruction of your hard drive and even the theft of your identity. Learn to use Internet Explorer's security features to proactively manage your safety online.

  6. Step 6

Tips & Warnings
  • Questions may arise during your use of Internet Explorer's security features. When this happens, get the answers you need on the Internet Explorer FAQs page (see Resources below).
  • Check your computer before installing Internet Explorer to make sure your system meets the requirements the program needs to run. A minimum of 64 MB of memory is a baseline requirement that has to be met. A Pentium processor is strongly recommended.
  • Some of Internet Explorer's security features come already activated and ready to use without any further actions from you. These features are the spyware, adware and pop-up blockers and the phishing filter.
  • Since these steps were created using Internet Explorer 7.0, that is the only version of the program that is guaranteed to be compatible with them.
